1、Specialty orientation

Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is set as university characteristic speciality in Shandong Province,that offers talents support for the development of Marine industry.

The sponsoring orientation is to train engineers and managers with the developing ability in transportation industry in Shandong Jiaotong University. According to the orientation, this specialty identifies the mechanics, naval architecture and ocean engineering etc. as basic courses and trains the application-oriented talents for the forefront of production and management in the ship, craft and marine engineering fields.

2Aim and objective

The aim is to train engineers and managers with the international perspective and developing ability in naval architecture and ocean engineering fields.

The objective includes:

(1) Know well about the foundational theories in science and technology

(2) Know well about the professional knowledge and technology in naval architecture and ocean engineering

(3) Have the integrated thinking ability, reasoning ability and problem solving ability

(4) Have the good personal qualities and professional quality

(5) Have the good professional ethics and social responsibility

(6) Have the effective team work spirit and communication skills

3、Graduation requirements

Through four years study, undergraduate students should have several knowledges, abilities and qualities as follows.

3.1 Knowledge and Understanding

(1) Master the knowledges of mathematics, natural science, economics and management required in the engineering fields

(2) Master the basic knowledge and theory in naval architecture and ocean engineering and learn about the status and trend of the major

(3) Master the basic knowledge in yacht and cruise engineering and be familiar with the related engineering constructions

(4) Learn about the method of production, design and research, laws and regulations in relevant jobs and professions; Understand the engineering influence on the objective world and society correctly

(5) Master the professional English knowledge

(6) Learn about the basic knowledge of military and national defense

3.2 Skills

(1) Have the ability to analyze and solve engineering problems using theory and technology synthetically ; Have the ability to consider the economic, environmental, legal, safety, health, ethics and other constraints

(2) Have the ability to make the basic drawing design and process planning in naval architecture and ocean engineering

(3) Have the experience in engineering practice

(4) Have the good organizational management ability, expression ability, interpersonal communication ability and team work spirit

(5) Have the lifelong study ability and adapting to social development ability

(6) Have the international perspective and cross-cultural communication, competition and cooperation ability

4、Specialty feature

(1) The service orientation of the naval architecture and ocean engineering speciality is based on Shandong Province and facing the whole country. The speciality objective is to train the application-oriented and professional refinement talents.

(2) According to the industry and local development requirements, the focus of development direction is set as the ship building technology and the professional characteristic direction is set as yacht design and manufacture.

(3) Naval architecture and ocean engineering speciality focus on the combination of production and research, the improvement of student’s practical ability. The work orientation is to train engineers and managers with developing ability for enterprises and research institutes in naval architecture and ocean engineering fields.

5、Length of schooling、Degree、Credit

(1) Length of schooling: The standard length of schooling is 4 years, the flexible duration is 3 to 8 years.

(2) Degree: Bachelor of Engineering

(3) Credit:Bachelor’s degree shall be conferred after students receive 180+10(the second class) credits and pass the graduation design (the graduation thesis) and graduation reply. The total credits include public basic courses 57 credits, subject basic courses 34 credits, specialty required courses 20 credits, specialty direction courses 6 credits,

specialty optional courses 4 credits, public optional courses 2 credits, centralized practice 47 credits, innovation and entrepreneurship education 10 credits(that is consisted by required courses 3 credits,optional courses 4 credits and practical courses 3 credits )
